After 30 yrs of marriage my husband commited suicide, I was 57, I sold everything and bought a foreclosed home. I worked full time and worked on this house full time that was 10 yrs ago I can honestly say this house saved my sanity and I intend to stay here till they take my body out in a body bag.

Yes, I live in a 55+ apartment building. It comes with all the issues that a regular building does except no kids. lol

Nope. I like my privacy. All senior living and assisted living places around here are always insisting that everyone has to join every single activity they have. 40 years ago I didn't mind doing stuff like that but now I'd rather just stay in and keep to myself. That's why during the pandemic I didn't really mind being isolated from everyone.

In 2012 I moved into the house my great grandfather built on 160 acres. I love it here, only the Grim Reaper will make me leave.

I’ll be 60 in November and live with my 94 year old mother in her home. We don’t plan to move unless it’s very necessary.

I tried it and moved out. Too many people with too much time on their hands. Got their noses in everyone's business.

Hi Mr. Steve, mom & I live in our home. We love our freedom and living quarters. We wouldn't have it any other way. Greetings from your friend in the great Peach 🍑 State of Macon Georgia

I bought a condo in 55+ community and love it. Always rented but decided to buy in retirement, figured either pay rent or a mortgage and I was tired of paying rent. So far no regrets, 2 years retired.

We considered moving to a 55+ community as there are a few newer ones being built near us. We went to visit and although what they offer was amazing, for us it wasn’t our thing. As someone else had said, they have lots of activities and expect you to sign up and be involved, at a level that we weren’t comfy with. We like just doing our own thing at our own pace. We’ve spent too many years being involved with our kids, whether it was sports, booster clubs, driving. All of that left us exhausted. Now we have time for us, we enjoy golfing, when it’s cooler, taking off for however long in our RV. My husband plays in a bowling league, I visit friends and do things at my own pace. I’m not old, but i don’t want to feel like I’m obliged to join a club because the community offers it. I do however see the good things they offer, and maybe if you’re single it would be nice to have others for company and also security. People to look out for you as you get older.

In about two weeks, my husband will be 55. I’m right now 52. We have discussed this at length, especially when we discuss about moving back to Coachella Valley, in about 8-10yrs. As of right now, we are not looking into moving into a 55+ community. That can change. We used to live in an HOA, and we absolutely hated it. We’re also a little introverted, and I don’t believe that we would use many of the amenities that a 55+ community provides.

Hi Steve....we do not live in a 55 yr old community, nor would I consider one. Only my personal opinion...to me, that separates us from a portion of the community. If given a choice, I would try to avoid a gated community too.

Steve In Palm Springs
Do you live in a 55+ COMMUNITY? Or do you plan to move into one when you retire?
(I'll share the results of this Poll in an upcoming video and let you know if we do.)
