"Size of limgrave." Yeah right, Miyazaki. That felt like a whole entire game.

My only complaint is that some areas of the map were really empty, there was no loot to collect, no enemies to fight, and no progression to different places. The exploration lacked only in that sense, it's an easy 4/5 stars tho.

The DLC is massive, full of content, so many items and weapons and bosses.

Everybody complain about last boss but the moment when you are at you last flask, boss about to get bleed procced, he continues with lion claw, its easy dodge but my heart in my throat. Dont fuck up. Last touch, blood loss, victory - there is almost nothing that compares to this feeling. Hands shaking 15 min after.

There were a few big problems that I couldn't get over during my playthrough, but the bulk of the experience was amazing and the cons didn't come anywhere close to outweighing the pros

Overall amazing, although I do still think there’s some tweaks that need a bit of ironing out. Senessax I think has escaped way too much criticism due to Bayle taking up the spotlight almost instantly after. It’s probably the single worst fight in the dlc in my opinion and is easily in the top 5 worst Fromsoft bosses of all time. It’s like a culmination of half the things the base game was criticized on: >a reused fight (even worse since the ancient dragons were already heavily disliked) >no worthwhile drops/lore >a lock on that only hurts rather than helps (which might be bugged since it was possible to lock onto ancient dragons’ legs in base game but not here) >aoe on literally every attack (even worse since you often can’t see the actual attack so you just have to dodge blindly) >bad arena (due to the water making the already bad aoe into a complete mess) >a weakpoint that’s annoying to hit >overinflated hp (mostly due to it’s ridiculously high resistances) It’s not even really that hard of a fight but instead it’s arguably worse. It’s an annoying, boring fight that contributes only to inflate the total boss number. There’s also plenty of other bosses that have some questionable attacks >commander Gaius’ charge attack has gotten plenty of criticism due to its full invincibility on top of incredible tracking >the grab attack on Messmer is somewhat oversized which makes strafing difficult >the Scadutree Avatar’s final blast attack(s) has a smaller hitbox than the blast itself >and Consort Radahn’s double slash is still undodgeable Luckily though, most of these things could easily be addressed in a future patch. But probably my biggest issue of the DLC is how ridiculously defensive the community has gotten over it, on both ends of the spectrum. Anyone can give even the slightest praise of the dlc and then instantly someone will complain about the balance. But likewise, any time someone even lightly criticizes anything about the DLC, someone will come and say the same “git gud” shtick that still has never had any actual merit (regardless of if the criticism has anything to do with difficulty or not) it makes discussing the dlc from a fair perspective almost impossible and likely could hurt the quality in future patches in what Fromsoft can properly address/fix when community feedback is worthless since nobody is able to properly agree on anything.

Gaius and Radahn(second phase) I found really unenjoyable. And the map is so complicated, there's no way I would've found the abyssal woods without looking it up. Other than that, it was a pretty fun DLC and I liked the increased difficulty. 4/5.

The art is some of the best I’ve seen in gaming. Exploration was very good especially in Shadowkeep but I didn’t like finding cookbooks or spirit ashes as the main rewards for a good bit of the caves because I never use them. I loved the spectacle of the bosses, however it felt like healing near a number of bosses was a death sentence, which breaks a good bit of the flow of the fight for me. I think everyone would benefit to having flask recovery lowered just enough so that you can immediately get back into the fight if you’re alert. Didn’t really like the incestuous angle the final boss took but my boy Mohg has finally been redeemed. Overall 8/10.

It's 4/5 for me purely because my main criticism is that 80% of the rewards are smithing stones/gloveworts that are by no means challenging to get in the base game are the rewards for most things, and the areas themselves already feel empty imo. The entire cerulean coast is basically like 2 grave glovewort 8s, a cross, a dragon, and a demi human queen. Beautiful areas but they ran out of stuff to fill it with

Everything other than the final boss is pretty good

The feeling of giddy joy I felt after beating the final boss is why I play these games. 10/10 and remember fellow tarnished: we fight for Mohg.

4 star because I feel 2 years was a long time to just skip out on gloam eye Queen lore

I've been busy so I haven't been able to keep playing the DLC as much as I'd like but there's just so much. I feel like the size of the DLC and the scope of the content is around the whole of Dark Souls 1 with it's DLC. There's just the right amount of bosses and notable side content and an absolute abundance of new items and notable things to collect. There's LOADS of new weapon classes, talismans, spells, crafting books. This DLC genuinely may as well have been a whole new game.

Giving 3 stars because Gaius exists and 90% of the time I am wandering absolutely empty spaces

Amazing, my only gripes would be the possibility of a frenzy flame drake/more dragon variety since there were so many undead ones (possibly adding one in the abyss since it’s really empty, even for an abyss yes I know), and adding some way to track which scadu fragments you picked up, having to go through all ~50 possible spots for only 3 is a drag (maybe something similar to the golden seeds to where they get replaced when you have a maxed out flasks and there are more than the max amount needed to reach lvl 20, although I haven’t played the dlc in new game+ as well)

9/10 for me. I would’ve liked better balancing for the new spells and weapons. Also, it would be cool if it connected to the based game more, but an AMAZING DLC regardless. They set the bar, but it’s not perfect

Exactly what DLC should be. Top quality content that would beat out most games even as a standalone game. Great job, FromSoftware! 👏

Exploration is unmatched. But I feel a little flat with the bosses. I don’t feel myself going “oh YEAH Divine Lion time!!.. can’t wait to beat Rellana again!!” like I do with most base game bosses. Thankfully they’re both optional but still. BAYLE (curse him) is a sick fight and both Messmer and Midra are masterclass. But we went from Gael to.. well, you know.. Overall the DLC is incredible and I am very much looking forward to subsequent playthoughs :)
