I can’t wait to add to this collection shortly! Princess’ Medallion tech is brilliant - once you’ve experienced the benefits, it’s hard to cruise without it.
Not only do you keep your medallion after your cruise (what a memento!), it opens up a much more convenient world of cruising onboard. It completely replaces the classic cruise key card.
It’s hard to pick a favourite feature, but I love that it automatically unlocks your stateroom door as you approach it.
You also use it to “ding” off and on the ship in port, and it’s what you use for onboard payments for any services or purchases that aren’t included in your fare.
It’s near field technology synchronises with tablets that crew members hold, so your face and name pops up for servers to personally greet you. Early one morning during my first medallion equipped cruise, I walked past the cafe and heard a, “good morning Mr Tassone” from the barista.
It’s also a tracker 👀 but in a good way! 😆 Combined with the Princess app, and the many touchscreens positioned around each ship, you can see exactly where your kids are onboard, or other members of your travel group (don’t worry, adults can opt out).
Plus, I guess my actual favourite feature is Ocean Now. It’s included for guests who book Princess Plus and Premier fares, and it lets you order food and drinks from your smartphone app or stateroom TV directly to your location - no more queuing 🥹
It’s not perfect. It doesn’t always work properly. Sometimes your order gets lost or doesn’t arrive. But in the many, many weeks I’ve had to experience the tech across a number of cruises, more often than not, it’s an absolute game changer and huge benefit to the onboard experience.
Heck, we’ve even ordered a couple’a sneaky aperol spritz to be delivered to our cabin from the tender *before* reboarding the ship and, quite possibly, that’s my favourite feature of them all 🤣
Have you experienced it? What’s it been like for you?
