Scared to not be the “big strong Dadda” to my 3 little girls
Scared people would say things like, “I thought that guy was an Olympic athlete, look at the state of him”
Scared of embarrassing my self
Scared of the criticism if I got submitted
After all, I was going to “fight” men who have been training on how to choke out the person in front of them
Thoughts like, “Why am I doing this? My fighting days are over,” kept popping into my head
Why am I putting my “reputation” on the line to do this? It didn’t make any sense
But because of all these negative thoughts, and the stuff I preach in my videos, I knew I had to do this!
You know, in life, the easiest thing to do is play it safe
Or tell yourself, “I’m not ready, maybe next year”
I came to terms with the fact that I might lose
But if I backed out (which I felt like doing), I wouldn’t be okay with that.
That’s not the type of Dad I wanna be, or the person I wanna be
But the only way to grow is by getting out of the comfort zone
The last time I stood on a podium was 16 years ago at the Beijing Olympic Games 🥉at the same weight I am today.
The last time I competed in Aus 🇦🇺was 18 year ago at the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games, and I didn’t make it to the podium.
Well, last week I did something crazy—I entered the Australian National Championships of BJJ, held in Melbourne, and I won the bloody GOLD medal 🥇!
My advice, don’t let FEAR stop you from being the person you want to be… if I listened to them negative thoughts today would be an ordinary day, but now I’ve achieved something I never thought I would ever be able to do.

Australian National Championships 🤯
This just happened..but it nearly didn’t
You know why? Because I was scared
Scared to lose
Scared to get hurt
Scared to not be the “big strong Dadda” to my 3 little girls

Scared of embarrassing my self

Success lies on the other side of fear.
