If you watch shorts, do you prefer if they have burned in captions?
Sample with them: www.youtube.com/shorts/NmSifR...
Sample without them: youtube.com/shorts/BpQIS1hmBb8

Linked to a private video as the first one there, and I can't edit the post apparently 🤦 - Here's one that works: youtube.com/shorts/xnDEVLkTNCI

with, i think - i didn't even know where to turn on subtitles in the video without burned-in ones. also, burned-in subtitles allows creators to better control where the subtitles are, so they aren't in the way of the code or anything

Burned in captions are distracting imo. If you need captions you can turn them on. It’s especially annoying when people burn in incorrect captions.

I prefer with, so the creator/editor can ensure accuracy. However, I wonder if the position would be better or worse by being a bit lower, even if on your head in the frame. I see that this position is also impacted by any UI buttons— the burned in captions are spaced nicely from the "shop" button.

I find the open (burned-in) captions a bit distracting, especially with code windows on-screen - it's a lot to take in as a viewer. YouTube does let you enable closed captions in Shorts for those that need or prefer them to appear.

i'm for burned-in subtitles (see other comment), but i don't like the visual clutter of every word being highlighted as it's said. i think just displaying them line-by-line (just like traditional subtitles) is way better for readability
