About you and your doctors thoughts on high cortisol levels; Hi Maddie! I recently stumbled across a screening method for high levels of cortisol (which could indicate depression well suited for pharmacological treatment). The patient is given the drug dexamethasone (this will terminate an endogen signaling pathway to produce more glucocorticoids such as cortisol). The drug should be taken on the evening before a morning blood test. If the person is still having high levels of glucocorticoids(such as cortisol) this is a sign specifically correlated to depression (which could be a root cause for anxiety syndromes) Hope this is useful in case of getting a diagnosis (which I highly recommend since it helps so many people), this is potentially something you could discuss with your endocrinologist? Other biomarkers of depression are low levels of inflammation and a deviant EEG-pattern during sleep (with excessive REM-sleep) I wish you all the best! //Bex
