My vacation starts with the airlines. When I reach my destinations, I will only SLEEP in the rooms, not live there. So flying 1st or business class sets the tone of the entire vacation. Again, when I arrive, I will be exploring and venturing out to enjoy wherever I am. Then crash for SLEEP. And rinse & repeat. Then end with a nice flight back business or first class.

If I had to pick one, I would take the business class flight. As tempting as the luxury hotel sounds, I'm on my vacations not for the hotel but for other activities like hiking or sightseeing. So I wouldn't have much use of the hotel or I would stay in the hotel and miss so many opportunities outside. But during a flight there is nowhere else I could go. I'm literally stuck in the plane. So a business class seat could be nice for more comfort.

Depends on how long the flight is. If it is over 4 hours I need comfort, or at least as comfortable as a flight can be. If it is under 4 hours I'll take the hotel.

My knee locks up when bent in tight economy seats. Especially on anything longer then 1 1/2 hrs. It takes days to fully recover, ruining those days of the trip.

Business Class every time. You can walk out of a lousy hotel. You can't walk off a lousy flight at 30,000 feet.

I paid for biz class for vacation. Also did a boutique hotel. Now I know to save money on hotels and spend it on airfare. All you're doing is sleeping and showering at the hotel.

I'm a mid-splurger. I prefer premium economy seats & 4-5 star accommodations

Absolutely depends on the length of the flight. International to Asia, Australia, southern Latin America gotta be Business Class.

I love me some lavish hotel action but I’m planning a trip to Korea from Texas later this year and am seriously considering splurging on the lay down seats!

I would prefer getting at least business class because the air flight is the worst part for me. I don't do well sitting down for long periods of time. So being comfortable in the airplane is more important to me. As long as the hotel is fairly clean and decent, I'm not spending that much time there. Anyway, I'll be out touring or doing other sightseeing.

I don't like to fly, so I would like to make the trip as comfortable as possible. Once I get there, a 4 star hotel is fine

Depends on the airline. I once got bumped up into Business Class on KLM because they had double assigned my seat (this was in the early days of online reservations, I think). The seat could recline almost all the way back, and you could walk around it. And there was no one in the seat next to me. They offered me a drink before takeoff, and they also took my breakfast order shortly after take off (it was an 10.5 hour redeye from SFO to AMS). It was the best flight I was ever on.

Getting to your destination is part of the vacation. Traveling business class is being on vacation with good food and service by the flight attendants. Why not arrive feeling refreshed and ready to go instead of tired and stressed.

I prefer to be as comfortable as possible on flights five hours or longer. I can sleep just as good at a Holiday Inn Express as I can at the Hilton. Besides, all I use the hotel for is sleep, and S***, shave and shower

the beautiful views, the soaking tub, the rain shower, the down/feather pillows, and that wonderful mattress just melts away any flight, no matter how crowded or noisy or hectic. ahhhhhhhhh

If it meant saving money, I’d gladly trade luxury for adventure. I’d fly on an airplane standing upright, gripping a rail like a commuter on a crowded city bus, letting turbulence replace the jostle of potholes. At my destination, I wouldn’t think twice about sleeping on a hard stone slab in a minimalist hostel, as long as it freed up my budget for the real joys of travel: savoring the local cuisine and diving headfirst into every museum, landmark, and offbeat attraction. For me, it’s not about how comfortably I get there or where I rest my head; it’s about what I can taste, see, and experience once I’ve arrived.

That's a really difficult question. If I'm on an extremely long flight, more room and comfort would be awesome. But the price is so high, I'd never do it unless it was offered for free. A luxury hotel is nice, but I'm not traveling to another country to hang out in a hotel room. I have stayed at luxury hotels, though, because we were able to get an amazing price. If I had a choice, and both were free, I'd probably take the better plane seat!
