Funny how most of the positive comments are from atheists or non-religious people and majority of actual religious people here say they don’t want politics in church…

It`s ironic that a bishop-in a church-should face such an angry backlash over a sermon about compassion. What would Jesus say?

Lots of comments here from people who have allowed themselves to be misinformed. This brave woman dared to put into words feelings that has and will be felt for a long time to come. We are in a willfully ignorant state. This is what we chose, even if some of us didn't by all means. Have mercy, indeed.

It’s perfectly fine for Trump to bring the church into politics but for this bishop to kindly ask Trump to show mercy to those he’s condemning is unacceptable to him. The look of anger and annoyance on Vance’s face was disgusting. The hypocrisy of the false idol that now resides in the White House is disturbing.

She did what we'd expect clergy to do - act as a conscience for society. It was her church and her pulpit, and her right and moral obligation to do so. It's not like she came into the Oval Office and started dictating to him what he should do. Speaking truth to power is kind of a tradition among the more well-regarded religious leaders, including the guy whose name is on the holiday we celebrated on Monday. And if that bothers Trump and his entourage, that's their problem.

What she did was undermine the fact that trymp is a fraud. He's not religious, and yet some view him as a Jesus. Now that someone of faith pleaded with him to have mercy, it makes him look really bad, and it was caught on video. We need more like this.

A pastor, in her own church asking for a person in power to show mercy is not speaking politics. She was speaking as Christ would. They were in HER church, she was not in their government. She was kind, she was gentle, and she was thoughtful as she asked for mercy for people who are afraid right now. If that offends you, then that is on you. If you are Christian and that offends you then you have lost your way. We are called to follow Jesus. Your false idol is fooling you and pulling you away from Christ and what he calls us all to do.

There are many debates by religious Christian here that either justify or deny her sermon in one way or another. Is it so important to tear it apart! It is a sermon that asks for humanity to be more caring and loving. Is that so hard to do. This is simply stated. Fighting it with arguments shows how difficult it is to simply care about even those different than you.

Heavenly grace flowed through every word you said. It's what you do and it's what's expected.

Budde walks the walk. She is a testament to her faith as all true believers in Jesus should be. The people condemning Budde have completely missed the message of their faith.

This was such a genuine, strong, human and inspiring gesture. It's very difficult to watch what's currently happening in the US but her action gave me hope. And strength.

Please have mercy on blue collar taxpaying U.S. citizens. We are suffering horribly because of illegal immigration. We are scared of working our whole lives and ending up.homeless. Almost unlimited cheap labor from illegal immigration keeps our wages down.

If any, of you read the Bible, Jesus said beware of wolves in sheep's clothing. The wolf is the one that calls herself a bishop

The New York Times
Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde was nearing the end of her sermon for the inaugural prayer service on Tuesday when she took a breath and looked directly at President Trump. "I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now," she said. Read more: nyti.ms/4jtnjz6
