What do you think will happen to TikTok in The US?

For context: TikTok is currently in a legal battle over a new U.S. law that may force it to sever ties with its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, by January 2025 or face a ban. The law aims to address national security concerns, including potential Chinese influence over user data and content moderation. TikTok and a group of creators are challenging the law, claiming it violates free speech rights. The case is expected to reach the Supreme Court if no resolution is found before the December ruling deadline

I don't think certain people can FORCE a citizen of another country to sell the business they own, because they don't like what country that person is from. That's ridiculous.

Half of me says I hope it gets banned because TikTok is not a healthy site for our minds, but at the same time, the other half of me says that the government should not put restrictions on the internet, at its not a physical space that is within their country or domain. It's not something they should be allowed to control because it's not something they can own.

I don’t think we can ban TikTok as much as I hate it. Because the only acceptable thing I can see it getting banned for is mental health shit, but we’d have to ban all social media platforms if that were the case

It’s definitely not getting sold I doubt they can actually ban it due to 1: it’s an internet site and therefore can be bypassed with things like VPNs 2: would cause a crack that could break into huge surveillance on EVERYONES devices which I shouldn’t have to explain why it’s a big issue 3: the company seems willing to fight this and it may actually reach SC which would be interesting

Most likely it goes to the Supreme Court, they rule TikTok can do business in the US, the government bans any employee from having the app on their phone due to security concerns, the regular public can use it as usual. The only smoking gun they have against it is pseudo-admissions from the company that they know the product can be harmful to teens and children but choose to sell it anyway, but that’s already true of tobacco and alcohol. I can see, at most, the app putting an age limit on it, but I doubt it’d be an outright ban.

Honestly I deleted TikTok from my phone a while ago and I don’t miss it at all, so I’m fine with whatever happens 😁😁

Personally I hope it's banned and asap, it has become a very unhealthy obsession for so many people and even young people saying they want to be Tiktok stars blows my mind. Tiktok first and Instagram next please.

How is blocking a third party from interfering with user experience against free speech? Or am I misunderstanding the provided context?

Free Speech rights do not apply to companies though...
