CFS Recovery

Hey Thrivers,

As we stand at the doorstep of a brand new year, I can’t help but reflect on how far life has come—especially after spending an unforgettable week in Hawaii earlier this month. Those 7 days were about more than just stunning sunrise hikes, an inspiring personal development workshop, and the slightly crazy decision to run 10km in the Honolulu Marathon with no training and just 7 hours’ notice. They were a full-circle moment for me.

You might know about my recovery journey from Youtube videos, but if you don't, Hawaii holds a special place in my heart. Back when I was bedridden and couldn’t even sit up, I used to close my eyes and imagine being in Hawaii—standing on a beach, watching the sunrise, or feeling the wind on my face at the top of a mountain WITHOUT symptoms. It was just a dream back then, but this trip? It was me stepping into that vision and bringing it to life.

One of those long-held dreams was to run a marathon. While this wasn’t the full one (next year, I’m coming for it!), running through Honolulu with cheering crowds felt like the ultimate reminder of what’s possible.

Here’s the best part: after all the hiking, running, exploring, and really testing my limits, I experienced ZERO symptoms. No fear of crashing. No second-guessing myself. And that’s coming from someone who once was too scared to roll over in bed because I didn’t want to “overdo” it.

If I could go back in time and tell my old self one thing, it would be this: recovery is possible and the best is yet to come. I know it feels far away some days, maybe even impossible at times. But every step—every moment of showing up for yourself—adds up.

This New Year, I hope you’ll take a moment to imagine your future self. Think about the life you want, even if it feels out of reach right now. I’m here to tell you, it’s closer than you think. And you already have more tools, support, and knowledge in this community than I ever had. If I can do this and so many others are making amazing progress in real time right before your eyes, you can too.

For me, it all came down to one golden rule: your success in recovery is determined by how well you respond to symptoms. It’s not about perfection. It’s about handling the APs the best you can, learning to smile on the journey to the top, and keeping things simple.

So here’s to 2025—new beginnings, fresh possibilities, and the amazing things waiting for you in this next chapter.

P.S. I vlogged the entire trip and can’t wait to take you along virtually to those mountain peaks and sunrise views.

Let’s make this year the one where we surprise ourselves. Keep going Thrivers. You’re closer to your breakthrough than you know.
