Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. What was I thinking? This is a classic case of being so involved in a job, and rushing to get it in use, I took my eye off the ball at the last minute with catastrophic consequences. We wanted our siberian larch to silver gracefully, but it looked SO like ordinary pine I was concerned to weather proof it. I already had a tin of Barrettine preserver and Fiddes high build oil so I thought, what the hell, I'll use those. The irony is I hate products that sit on the surface (you'll hear me often ranting about wood stains) but the clue was in the title "high build". They call it an oil but it's not. It's a polyurethane varnish that sits on the surface. So what little sun we had this useless summer set to work destroying the protective layer and possibly the larch beneath thought "I don't need this s+&t" and burst through it like the Incredible Hulk when he was a bit cross. It'll all have to be stripped off in the spring and I've hopefully roped in my good friend ‪@RagnBoneBrown‬ to help.
