DIY PETE

Hey guys! I need your help. The last video on how the 12x20 Ultimate shed was built seems to be popular with viewers and I'm thinking about doing something similar but smaller. I'm looking at designing a small, efficient, and affordable backyard shed that would be customized into an office. With a newborn in the house, separating the work environment from the house has been a great way to improve productivity and give me a quiet working area. Would anyone be interested in a build like this? If so, what size would you like to see built and what would you use it for? I'm thinking a smaller footprint and lower roof to help make it easier for approval with home owners associations. Would love to hear your ideas and feedback. Thanks!! - Pete

@MNPROPS2

I was looking for a tutorial hiw to build a shed/workshop. I watched a bunch of tutorials for inspiration and to learn how to build. I discovered your video when it came out and i found to be the best one i have watched so far. Great video. I started building my own shed and i'm almost done.

I'm in the same boat, but with a toddler. Something small and affordable but with good insulation (of course there are always tradeoffs). Really looking forward to this when it's done down the road!

I'm interested in doing the same thing. Need a 10x12 office to work from home. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out!

This would be awesome! My wife went to remote working 2 years ago and I also will be by the end of the year. Having a small dedicated space in the backyard to work out of would be perfect

My master bedroom is 15x15 and I often think it would be the minimum size I would need for a dedicated wood shop. This would also be a nice size for an office, large enough for some other furniture besides the desk and a storage case of some sort.

Ooo I love this idea! I don’t have a size in mind but the smaller footprint sounds appealing to me and less intimidating.

I agree with your plan! I’d be interested in seeing different layouts for a home office with the size recommendations for each?

Maybe something like an 8’ x 12’. Using 2”x2” boards for framing to keep cost lower.

I keep threatening to build a 6x10 lean-to style shed, maybe a bit bigger. It would be great to have something that would fit right next to the house. I finally built your outdoor cedar bar after all these years and I love it. Thanks for the great content!

A kid and teen rec-shed! Hear me out Pete! When my kids were young and after homework was done but the weather sucked, all I heard was, “I’m bored! Why don’t we ever do anything?” I’m thinking of a shed where the kids can escape and play and create. Quiet video game corner with head sets, crafting table and supplies with ample storage and comfy seating all around. Even a microwave and mini fridge snack pantry. All of the furniture has to be easily moved so the center of the room can serve as a sleeping bag sleep over circle. What say you Pete? Can it be done! I have faith you can!

We had a flood after we moved to wv, it ruined the 24ft trailer we were living in. We needed a place to live until I could build something for me, the wife, one LG dog, and four cats so I added a small section onto our 12x12 shed for a full bath 6x8 and converted the whole thing so we could live there temp, it had everything. So have you ever done a small guest house or something simular.

@KyleBeesley

I might use one for a laser engraving workshop. Would need it to be somewhat regulated temperature.

I would love to have your plans for this shed! My wife loves it and wants me to build it for her home gym. Instead of the sliding glass doors we would put double French doors. Do you have any plans available?

My town doesn't require a permit if the shed is less than 150sqft. Not sure about the rest of the US but something along those lines would be interesting as well as best practices to best utilize materials with minimal cutting.

I would love it to be modular, so that I could expand it progressively over the years. So a smaller, easier to build unit, that could be extended in width, depth, or height, in modules. Also an approach to make a toilet/bath-room module, off-grid, to add to the options.

I converted a 10 x 12 tool shed into a she-shed for my wife, including insulation, paneling, and a mini-split. It’s cozy, comfortable, has room for all her craft stuff, and gives her much-needed isolation from our three young kids. It’s been a couple of years and now I want one, too. Similar size. I would like to move all my books into it and use it into a library/study/smoking room where I can smoke my pipe comfortably and read books during these hot GA summers.

In my local, I'm limited to 120sqr ft before a permit is needed. Something 10x12 would be great

Like to see a small one that maximizes lumber specs for limited waste! Love to see it solar powered too!

Im actually planning on building a 10x20 shed, but strictly for outdoor storage so I should be able to use these plans minus the roof and all the fancy stuff inside!
