Kojo Sarfo, DNP

l've talked to thousands of suicidal patients (& friends) in my career and I always tell them the same thing: "You probably don't want to die, you're just looking for a new way to live". l've never had anyone disagree with that statement.
Turns out that in order to live and live well, we need a few key things: a purpose for being here, a healthy and safe environment, basic necessities accounted for, and non-transactional
relationships where we feel like we matter.

These are all things that can be very difficult to achieve, so when you're at your lowest you have to BELIEVE that there's hope for things to get better.

And there's ALWAYS hope, it's just that depression, anxiety, grief and other mental health issues make it hard to capture the small moments of joy that are happening around us every day.

There's no perfect moment to turn your life around, but things get better when you start to count up the small wins. In life, some things aren't that important and some things matter a lot, but happiness is always worth fighting for. Keep Fighting! #SmallWins #KeepGoing

Thank you for the work you do. I wish my son would have had a chance to talk to you before he took his life. He fought so hard, and I tried to help him. Ultimately, he did not feel all of those things and the overwhelm kept him from choosing to stay. It will be two years this month, and it's still so hard to think about. He is missed & loved so much.

As a lovely sensitive auti who experiences intrusive thoughts, i tend to have want to not live thoughts when i am really too stressed & on verge of meltdown. If i can allow the pain & meltdown i can feel relief after. Allowing myself to be my sensitive self is living in a new way, so i consider this relatable & true words there. Well put! Thanks for your sweet desire to help all the amazing autis & neurodivergent folks !

I agree with you at 1000000000% if possible. I was at this point of my life and I had no hope because I didn't see any changes in years that could improve my life. Little by little, changing my environment, what implies to let bad people go, transforming my space into something that could make me happy, and so on, gave me the opportunity to view my life in a different perspective. I wasn't around toxic people who undermined me anymore, I wanted to enjoy watching my walls and feeling that space was actually mine!! Those were my first steps to being feeling capable to overcome the situation. Invest in yourself and your mental and physical health, and if you can afford a psychologist, go for it. Don't be harsh with yourself, be patient, focus on your recovery. I'm completely sure you'll find better. In some years, you'll look back and realize how your wellbeing has improved over the years. 💕💕💕 Trust the pathway

You are so right. And these are social health problems not mental health problems. Until we start talking about social health nothing will improve

I like as well, remember too, that happiness itself is not an eternal state, it's moments too.
