I fell for a YouTube ad for a prebuilt Shopify store. Thankfully all they took was my $20. No personal/finance fraud came from it other than the robbery. I was heartbroken by it because at the time (and still currently) I was in an abusive marriage, facing financial abuse and $20 was/still is a lot to me due to my circumstances. During the phone call the person who dealt with me made all kinds of promises that were never fulfilled, even shared his own stories of growing up in an abusive home and sold me a dream that the Shopify store could help me safely escape my situation. I felt and still feel really taken advantage of and targeted. Since the business operates in Canada and I’m in the US, I didn’t/don’t think there’s anything I can do about it. It’s not even about the $20, it’s the principal.

I came close to giving a large amount of money to a supposedly reputable colleague once to help with bills and stuff, but luckily I had another one of my colleagues basically pull me aside and say I may as well take a lighter to my money seeing as I probably wouldn’t get my money back. I didn’t give them any money as I was trying to save up towards getting my driving lessons and a car sorted and I felt like I dodged a bullet when more colleagues started suggesting they had lent them money and not had it back after a few months.

This happened during the lowest point of my life. I sent $500 to someone who introduced himself as a "banker" for a prospective business venture. Didn't think that I will fall for it ever in my life. But when you're on your lowest-low, you make very bad financial decisions. So my advice is never make any money-related decisions when you're at your worst poiny because it's very likely that it'll be a very bad one. By the way, I earned that amount 6 times over already. I am currently in a good financial standing where I can buy what I need and want. Just happy to get over it years after.

Yes, a lot!!! But mostly small time things. I paid money to Carlton Sheats real estate buying program, an insurance sales program, I tried an oil futures investment program, that just cost me money. All in all I probably only lost a couple thousand or less on all this but I don't cry too much because I actually own and rent a few investment properties today😂

Unfortunately, yes back in the mid 2000s because people lied to me about making a living through MLM scams. I learn my lesson.

I have been scammed twice. First gave a " company" my account information so they can take 200 for a credit card. They took the money but no card. Second time was even worse. Stupid me sold my social for 10 dollars. I was homeless at the time and really needed the money now I have to file my taxes on paper every year.

Pablito's Way
Have you ever fallen victim to a scam where you actually sent money (or something of value)?
