A fandom is like a family who understands you. No matter how you end up acting. ALWAYS.

Wow, I never thought something like a text could warm up my heart so bad but it did. My best friend is also trans and I know that he‘s been going through a lot lately, that‘s why I‘m happy that you just said that. I hope that, if I‘ll show him this, he‘ll feel a little bit better. Thank you Tessa <3

This made me cry because there’s so much hate in the world and hearing you say that you support trans people and the LGBTQ+ community on a whole is such a wonderful breath of fresh air!

It honestly breaks my heart that someone who created such a beautiful world, which I know many trans people have used as a safe space, could have such hateful views.

At this time it’s good to remember the true message of Harry Potter: Love triumphs over hate. This is what Harry Potter means to us, even if the author doesn’t act that way anymore 💙

Thank you for mentioning this. As a trans HP fan and all around nerd seeing these things happen has been incredibly conflicting and hurtful. Glad to see that mama starfish is still here for us queer magic lovers. ❤️

Love you so much Tessa! Such a supportive person you are. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I can say how much I am grateful for your love.

Aight y’all, strap in I’m about to talk the phone out your hands. Tessa, you are the most amazing, positive, lovely starfish anyone could ask for. Your positivity and love shines through the screen and into us. I know this is hard for you. And, frankly, J.K. Rowling’s actions are severely unacceptable. I’m think that everyone who looked up to her was sad and confused about what the she did. And just like how you’re with us, we’re with you too!! I love ya starfish! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ And if she’s gonna act like that, call her out. I love the potter series but I’d call her out. Anyways, yeah!! That’s all folks. ❤️ plus I’m Bi so.... ok bye!!!

Well said, it hurts a lot that someone who gave me my childhood is against my, and many of her fans, community But like you said, Harry Potter is much more than its author 🥰

It makes me sad she would do that, I looked up to her as a strong woman who loves everyone and anything. The picture of Emma Watson is a reason why Emma is my idol she is amazing and supports everyone. You are a amazing human and I’m glad that you took time to type that, and tell people that you care. A lot of my friends are part of the community and I know it’s hurtful to them, one of my friends is a trans boy and it’s just horrible. It makes me so sad that someone that could have a huge impact on someone, by writing a book series and imagine if you were transgender and hearing that something you love it created by someone who wouldn’t support you. It’s so sad. I support the community and love it with all my heart! Thank you for being so kind, Tessa!

I love you your a true idol Tessa and i totally agree with you this is not right I didn’t think JK Rowling would ever do this😢

Thanks for sharing this. These actions are confusing and aggravating for me too - it’s hard to know how to feel. Hearing that others are experiencing this as well helps me feel a little better, and knowing that we’re all here for each other makes me feel a lot better <3

You are one of the most inspirational and incredible people that I've ever had the pleasure to know about

You are incredible Tessa. You are 100% right everybody deserves to be loved and excepted. I have aunts who had to hide for 12 years because they weren’t excepted. People egged there house. And I’m glad that you except everyone and I look up to you so much and I want to be just like you when I grow up.

Tessa Netting
Hey guys. I just wanted to come on here and share a message of support for the trans community within the Harry Potter fandom. I know that recently J.K. Rowling has done some really hurtful things (two days ago she liked some transphobic tweets and has recently followed anti-trans activists). But I just wanted to say that even though I deeply love Harry Potter— I in no way support this point of view. I believe that trans people are valid and beautiful and don’t deserve to feel excluded from a fandom that they love.
All members of the LGBTQ+ community are welcome in my starfish family and deserve to feel welcomed in the Harry Potter community. I am really heartbroken that I even have to say this and that someone that I looked up to as a hero, as an idol, could support such harmful posts— words that have an extremely negative impact on the LGBTQ+ community. And I can’t in good conscience keep publicly praising an individual that has chosen to use her incredibly powerful platform to support such hurtful views. It’s extremely disappointing to me and I hope that one day this behavior stops or changes.
Her stories have had an enormous impact on my life, have completely shaped who I am as a person, have helped me through my darkest moments, and continue to bring me more joy than anything in the world, which is why this is so difficult. I truly love Harry Potter. But Harry Potter stands for something more than the views of one individual person- this fandom has become a community, a family, a safe space for so many people, myself included. So if you are feeling confused or hurt or angry about this, I completely understand and am here for you. I hear you and support you and respect you and love you. You do belong. You do matter. You still have family in this fandom. And you are not alone.
