What group of stars could have inspired one of humanity’s oldest stories. The Pleiades, or the Seven Sisters, are seen by cultures across the globe as seven young women. This is theorized to indicate that the story predates any of those individual cultures. Additionally, the human eye can currently only make out six stars of the Pleiades, and the last time seven were visible would have been over 100,000 years ago. If true, this would date the story to before humans had even left Africa!
