Horace Heidt was one of the most famous band leaders of all time. He was a pioneer and accomplished many firsts during his lifetime. Starting his career in vaudeville, he worked and helped discover Art Carney, The King Sisters, Frankie Carl, Alvino Rey, Gordon MacRae, and more. Horace became a household name in radio by hosting the Pot o' Gold, the very first radio show that gave away money to it's listeners. For that he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also received another star by hosting the first traveling talent show on television, The Original Youth Opportunity Program. Many of America's most talented stars graduated from this show, including: Johnny Carson, Ken Berry, Dean Jones, Frankie Carle, Florence Henderson, Al Hirt, Pete Fountain, and Mike Douglas, to name a few.
