Athene Noctua - also known as the owl of Athena or owl of Minerva.
The owl, or bird of the night, was concreted to Minerva, as the symbol of Vigilance, because it is awake during the night. It was reckoned a bird of the ill Omen. In Virgil, a solitary owl, perched on the roof of the palace, affrights Dido with its dismal groans. Aescalaphus, says Ovid, was changed into an owl, a bird forebodes only misfortunes.
