'Turn Challenges into Opportunities - The Strawberry way'
What do you do when you visit a nearby hill station and make a stopover near a strawberry shake garden restaurant?
You order some shake and snacks, eat and leave…right?
I used to do the same earlier, every time I visited Panchgani.
But this time, I saw something else. It was just before the pandemic in 2020.

Strawberry is a perishable fruit which lasts only for 24 hours.
Many decades ago, a man came to the hill station and saw an opportunity amidst the challenge – what if I set up a processing unit to make various products from Strawberries?
After processing, these will have a longer shelf life.
It took some time but Mapro became a household name in Maharashtra and beyond; and Strawberries, a lesser-known fruit so far, became synonymous with ice creams, shakes, chewee candies, jams, etc.
Perishability, earlier a challenge, became an opportunity now. (1)
But how did the founder of Mapro come to the little sleepy hill station?
Because of, again, a challenge. He was happily settled at Mumbai till his father was diagnosed with a health condition and doctors advised him to shift to a hill station for healthier and healing climate.
When he first came to the hill station, he noticed things which Mumbai had but not this sleepy town.
And then he saw something which the tiny place had in abundance.
The challenge of forced movement turned into an opportunity (2).

By the time I finished my ‘Strawberry with cream with ice-cream’ – the signature dish of the garden restaurant, I had an idea – Why don’t I create a book which gives multiple templates for people to use adversities into opportunities? Since there would be no travel involved during pandemic, I can use 2-3 hours every day, which I spent in traffic, to write a few pages before beginning my office work (WFH)?
That is how ‘The Strawberry Farm’ was conceived – a book of self-coaching for employees.
Again, the challenge of a pandemic turned into an opportunity. (3)

Three stories ran in parallel…(points 1,2 and 3 above).
All tied by a common thread.
Story of a strawberry farm owner.
Stories of self-coaching and life/career transformation - ideal for many corporate employees whose managers are too busy with their own business.
Story of a HR Head who used pandemic to create an employees’ hand book for transformation.
‘The Strawberry Farm’ also gave me an idea to create a 7-point (Habits, Mindset, etc.) based 1-2-1 coaching programme for turning lost souls into focussed professionals?
So which challenge are you facing in life and career?

Excerpts of a morning coaching session I had with a mentee today:

“Sorry Arun, I could not join the coaching programme last Saturday morning. As conveyed to you, I went for a Marathon where Sachin Tendulkar had also come.”
“Oh, that’s great. Must have been a great experience to be there running with Sachin…!”
“Yes, but I wanted to ask you a question. The marathon was to begin at 5 AM and I was there at 4:30. Surprisingly, Sachin was also there in the stadium earlier than stipulated time as if it’s a regular habit for him. It left me wondering – why to be so early and go through the pains even now when he has attained all that one can only dream of…?”
“The answer lies somewhere in the question itself. Sachin and people like him are rare and fall in the 3rd category. Let me explain…there are 3 types of people in this world:
➡ One, who will show discipline only when there is no other way, e.g. they will wake up early only when they have to catch a morning flight.
➡ Second, those who will stay disciplined till things are bad and will revert to their comfort seeking lethargic self when everything becomes normal.
➡ And third, discipline is a way of life for them – they will be early on both good and bad days. They know, this is a what has brought them here and can also take everything away from them the day they leave it…”
“Ok…and such people must be rare. Isn’t it…?”
“Yes, they are very few. I call it the rule of 70:20:10 which reflects the ~ % of people in each of the 3 categories…
We all have to ask a question to ourselves – so which category do I fall in…?”

They made 5 AM club.
I made 4:45 AM club.
Today’, I am waiting to join my MMRG family members in a while at 5:30 AM for an hour.
You are bound to meet many temporary defeats on the path to success and your dreams.
Hundreds of many be even more than that.
You all know Edison who met 10000 ‘temporary defeats’ (the world calls it failure).
You need a super power to keep moving in a surrounding where people give up on their dreams after 5-6 defeats.
They think it’s final. Let’s give up.
No failure is final.
It’s just a temporary defeat and if you can move over it, and do so many times, success would be yours.
You will make a change in your approach, learn and again move ahead.
Success is not for everyone!
