It’s Mid-Autumn Festival today. 🌕🥮 It’s the 2nd most important holiday of the year with Lunar New Year being the 1st. Equivalent to Thanksgiving — love ones gather for dinner and mooncakes while gazing at the moon. One of the traditional fillings in the cake is Lotus paste with a preserved whole egg yolk in the center representing the moon. The harvesting of crops is the 2nd reason why this day is celebrated. Usually, after this day fall season comes very close. I’m saddened by the days getting shorter and nights longer. I guess a break from the heat isn’t so bad…as you can see in the 2nd photo. 😆 I was sweating under the Áo dài (Vietnamese dress) at 8AM.

Happy Labor Day! Sharing one of my favorite moments from my visit on a farm in Pù Luông, Vietnam. I was helping the family feed the fishes Elephant grass. 🤭

I’m working on the vlogs from the trips. Hope to roll them out soon.

How’s everyone’s summer been? I got a lot of content from Vietnam I can’t wait to share with you. I tried to film as much of your suggestions as I could. 🤗

Am I in Cambodia? 😅 Speaking of Cambodia, have you seen my new video on an abandoned Khmer (Cambodia) home garden? https://youtu.be/Tl4k2X8_gpY?si=vFvNC...

Summer Solstice. Today marks the longest day out of the year. As much as we like to hide beneath the shade during the blazing sun, so do the microbes in the soil and compost. Make sure to mulch the garden well to prevent plants from feeling stressed. If you practice vermicompost then make sure the worms are staying cool in the shade. Now is also a good time to replenish the garden with compost or fertilizers.

The heat in the tropics really helps matters break down quickly. I have been burying juice pulp in manure-based soil (there isn't a lot of options for soil here). After 2 weeks or so all that’s left is dark, rich soil. Since I buried things fresh there are loads of volunteers growing which can easily be removed and compost. 🤣 How are you keeping your garden happy this summer?

PS. I used Photoshop generative fill to remove 2 houseplants and random person in the image. It was such an eyesore! 🤯 It’s pretty amazing we can easily cleanup images now.

Happy Father’s Day! I want to share a story that happened today. Finding treasure…Today mom found the bracelet that belonged to me at birth. It was a gift from grandpa. He asked our neighbor who was a new jeweler at that time to joint his coin collection into a piece of accessory for me. Surprised I fit it now! Perhaps it was meant to be an ankle bracelet?

These are French coins which he probably collected during the years the French colonized Vietnam. Today France no longer use these coins so the bracelet is extra special to me.

It hailed today in South Vietnam!! This is a very rare occurrence. It was so much fun to catch ice for the short amount of time it hailed. No plants were harmed. Just helped cool off a 95F day. ❄️🧊

Anyone know what this is!? This thing grows in water, and the edible part is inside of these pods. This cluster is heavier than it looks too! I can’t wait to share with video with you! 🤗🫶
