Best of pianist Kay benyarko plus videos of him playing the traditional african instrument known as seprewa An ancient African Harp.
The seprewa is also know as the senku .It is a Ghanaian harp, it was obtained by the Asantes as a spoil of the 1730 war from the Gyaman of Bonduku in present day northern Ivory Coast. Osei Tutu the 1st(ruler of the Asantes) kept the instrument for himself, employing a man who played it and bringing him to Kumasi as personal singer. It is said that upon his death, his successor constructed a copy of the instrument in his honour. In time, from that lofty position, the seperewa became available to the lower-ranking chiefs and much later. It is still performed by very few for the Kings of africa. There are onl;y 6 masters of the intrument in the world but people like kay benyarko are doing their best to teach the sacred intrument to the mases.I hope you enjoy.
