God has been shifting my perspective about reading the Bible. Instead of saying, "What can I get out of this passage?", I now say, “What is God teaching me about Himself in this passage?” and “What can I learn to grow closer to Him?”

Reading the Bible is not about me, it is about knowing WHO God is and what He is TELLING His followers about who He is. This is crucial.

In the struggle to find our true identity, we can so easily fall into the trap that says our dreams in life will fulfill us.

We make idols out of our relationship status.
We make idols out of our job titles/money.
We make idols out of our possessions

God’s will and your dreams are two very different things. When we ask for God’s will, He is asking us to trust Him. He is reminding us that His story is bigger than any individual story we can come up with for ourselves. The dream big mentality is erroneous because it places YOU as the main character.

You were never meant to be the main character.
