Only The Ball Was Brown

A channel chronicling the "Golden Age" of basketball--an exciting era of fundamentals and set shots...when traveling and palming were fouls (but offensive goaltending was not)...and there was no shot clock! Thrills galore!

Nevertheless, an era worth documenting, as it is a key link between Dr. Naismith's peach baskets and the exciting game of today

Our page name is a reference to Robert W. Peterson's great book on Negro League baseball ("Only The Ball Was White"), reflecting that fact that early professional basketball leagues were mostly caucasian...rest assured, however, that we honor ALL early basketball here, regardless of who is playing it

Finally...while we focus on the Golden Age, anything up until about 1980 is welcome here

Enjoy!
