JAFFNA, it’s Stan and Bravin, an iconoclast electro-pop duo through the meeting of fire and ice. The fire is the parisian Stan, a trained chef and self-taught musician. Bravin, of Sri-Lankan origin, embodies the ice. The first is self-taught, the second comes from a classical training at a conservatoire in London. The two are perfectly complementary.
They came into the limelight through Ripples, their first EP with over 7 million listens, JAFFNA returned on April 20, 2018 with Retrograde, new EP with more retro sonorities. The comparisons are worth what they are worth, but if we had to find one, it might be somewhere in between Moderat and Majid Jordan.
Abandoning the chill-out and electronica sounds of the beginning, the dark and light Retrograde reflects the willingness of these “Stranger Things” fans to enjoy greater technical mastery to get you moving, especially on stage. Would Jaffna be exactly the place of retrograde and the avant-garde? To be discovered absolutely.
