Hi, I'm Al Dworsky. In the middle of my life I fell in love with hand drumming. So I quit my job in order to spend all my time doing what I loved, even though I was married and had a young daughter and a mortgage. What made this leap of faith work was the decision to create instructional books and videos for people like myself. My wife Betsy Sansby joined me, and together we wrote our first book--"Conga Drumming"--and started Dancing Hands Music. That first book went on to became a best-seller and win the DRUM Magazine Readers' Poll for "Best Instructional Book." We were on our way.
Lately I’ve created videos on how to play bongos, cajon, “gentle djembe,” congas, keyboards, guitar, and (most recently) “Cup Drumming for Kids,” all available at www.dancinghands.com. I’m not the best drummer in the world, but I try to be the best teacher, putting the right-sized steps in the right order so that anybody--especially beginners who start as adults like I did--can learn to play.
