I started leading worship in 1982, a year after becoming a Christian. Then, my parents and I began attending John Wimbers church in Anaheim California. They were on the leadership team and I was mentored to lead worship for kinships and the young adults. In those early days, my parents and I, along with many others, were drawn to that church for one big reason: God was there. Yes, God is everywhere, but, it was very different back then. The Numinous of God was very tangible and evident. It was as if “Peace” had become a physical substance you could cut with a knife. Experiencing God in such a close and intimate way ruined me for the ordinary. Unfortunately, experiencing His presence to that degree eventually became less frequent. For the next 30 years, I faithfully pursued the same values taught to me by previous Vineyard leaders, hoping to return to the Numinous of God like we once had. Strangely, there was much resistance along the way. I’d like to share that journey with you.
