On this day, believers consecrate water, which is the main symbol of the holiday. Christians believe that the holy water at the Epiphany has healing properties, it can be used to treat ailments. Therefore, it is stored all year round and does not spoil.
According to ancient traditions, the consecration of water was carried out in the open air on the bank of a river, lake or stream. In addition, before Epiphany, people cut a large cross out of ice and placed it near the pit, into which they then dived. They believed that in this way they were cleansed of sins and charged with health for the whole year.
