Electric hauled freight trains have started operating on Konkan Railway! This is WAG-9 with BCNA skipping Udupi railway station.. As per sources, passenger trains may operate with electric locomotives by end of the year.
A late running 12686 Mangaluru Central - MGR Chennai Central Superfast Express, powered by a RPM WAP-7 skipping the very clean & beautiful Arrakonam Junction Railway station of SR. In the process, it also overtakes on-time running 17314 Hubbali Junction - MGR Chennai Central Superfast Express.
Last week on 08/02/2020 marked the second phase of E-locomotive trails on Konkan Railway. 3 weeks ago, the Thokur Udupi section trail run was conducted with a Erode WAP-4 locomotive. Last week, KR did another trail to ensure that the Phase 1 of electrification work (between Thokur and Udupi) was successful. Another trail was conducted this time between Thokur and Bijoor with main focus on Udupi Bijoor section. The trail was successful and now, the TOK-BIJR section electrification is complete. The trail was conducted with an Arrakonam WAP-4 locomotive. Kudos to KR for very fast and swift completion of the electrification work.. Next target for KR is the completion of electrification work in Bijoor to Kumta region and laying of poles in Kumta Karwar Goa section..

As most of you are aware, the Thokur Bijoor section of KR is already under wires. Today the e-loco inspection was conducted between Tokur and Udupi. In the upcoming days, a CRS inspection is planned in the Thokur Udupi section! Please have a look at the below! Erode WAP4 does the honors as the first live E- locomotive to Grace Konkan Railway :)
