Jamie Records
Jamie Records ushered in the modern era of rock ‘n roll as a record label founded in Philadelphia at the time that Dick Clark started American Bandstand. The weekday afternoon television show beamed from West Philadelphia broke the monopoly of major labels by giving instant national exposure to the records of the independent labels. Among the earliest hit artists who owed their career to Dick Clark was Duane Eddy, the Jamie Records guitarist who became an international star with his recording of “Rebel Rouser.”
Jamie and its affiliated labels Guyden, Phil-LA of Soul, Arctic, Dionn and Top & Bottom participated in all forms of popular music and specialized in the emergence of R&B and the evolution of R&B into funk. It had pop music in the 1950s and 60s, including doo-wop; rockabilly and country; rock ‘n roll, rock and alternative.
The label's survival into the contemporary era makes it unique and a living history of American music.
