Sheku Kanneh-Mason
British cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason, one of the brightest young stars on the classical music scene, caught the world’s attention in May 2018 after performing at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Windsor Castle. His performance was greeted with universal excitement after being watched by nearly two billion people globally.
His highly anticipated second album, released in January 2020, features the iconic Elgar Cello Concerto and an illustrious collaboration with Sir Simon Rattle and the London Symphony Orchestra, recorded at Abbey Road studios.
The first black winner of the BBC Young Musician competition (2016), Sheku became one 2018’s biggest breakthrough artists following the success of his debut recording for Decca Classics, Inspiration, which reached number 11 in the Official UK Album charts. He went on to receive two Classical BRIT Awards, performed at the BAFTAs, and partnered with design icon and Paul Smith.

One of the things I really enjoy about my role with Uk Music Masters is getting to work with young people who love the opportunity to make music. Last night I got to co-host their fund-raising gala and to join the Ashmole Primary School's orchestra for some playing as well. BIG congratulations to all who took part in the performances and to everyone who was involved with putting together this excellent evening!

Happy New Year!! I'm so happy to share my first release of 2020! The first time I heard this beautiful traditional song it was sung by Kathleen Ferrier. Her unmistakable contralto voice matches the cello so well, I found it irresistible to make my own arrangement. It's the only solo cello piece on my new album as well as being the first piece you hear, and I was especially keen to create a video for it. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!
