Welcome! My name is Nico Carver, and this YouTube channel is all about astrophotography. I tend to focus on astrophotography education for beginners, but as the channel has grown, I'm also delving more into reviews of the latest gear for astrophotography as well as more advanced topics. Feel free to send me a message (email, instagram, discord, etc.). It may take me a while, but I try to reply to all my messages.

Edit: SOLD OUT! But still accepting applications if you'd like to be added to our waitlist.

This fall (Oct. 31 - Nov. 4), Sarah Mathews and I will be leading an in-person, all-inclusive workshop devoted to nebula photography in southern Arizona! If this sounds of interest to you, we are still accepting applications for our first cohort here: nebulanights.com/

Have you used Siril's Star Recomposition process? I continue to be SO impressed by it. I'm able to stretch the nebula and the stars separately and with a huge amount of granularity. Yes, there are other ways to do this, but not this seamlessly and easily with a live image preview. I'll be showing off its power again in my next video - coming soon! To prepare for that video, download Siril and Starnet (CLI version)! siril.org/ and starnetastro.com/ and get starnet integrated into Siril. Watch my video here for instructions: https://youtu.be/gyOa8eNIVlk (check the timestamps to skip ahead to your operating system - for Siril you need to install the CLI version of Starnet)

FYI: There are impersonators of me on Facebook. I do have a facebook page - this is the real me on facebook: www.facebook.com/nebulaphotosdotcom I'd appreciate if you follow the real me, and report the fake ones. The only reason I ask is I'm afraid the fake profiles may try to scam people. I'll try to be more consistent about posting on Facebook.
Thanks, Nico

Almost to 200K subscribers! If I hit that milestone tomorrow (Sunday), I might do an impromptu live stream. Probably can't do it next week as I'll be traveling. Anyways, thanks all for the support over the years here on YouTube. It's been fun so far, an I hope to celebrate many more milestones in the years to come.

Quick post to say I had a GREAT eclipse from Northern Vermont! Here's a still from a video I was taking during it. I am taking a quick break (a couple days) to recharge and then will work on an advanced processing tutorial using my 2024 Eclipse data (177 GB in total!) I've already posted a basic processing tutorial with my 2017 Eclipse data here: https://youtu.be/ILi9qcfp_dE

Also wanted to mention that next week you can meet me in person at NEAIC/NEAF. I'll be there for both events and teaching a workshop on using free processing software (Siril/GIMP) for nebula processing at NEAIC. More info on NEAIC here: www.neafexpo.com/copy-of-neaic and NEAF here: www.neafexpo.com/
Hope to see some of you there!!

Sunny day today (March 30) that I'm using to practice for the upcoming eclipse.

If you plan to use Solar Eclipse Maestro automation software - see my pinned comment on that video (https://youtu.be/uGiziVV7YDM) about updating to a new version with corrected timings.

Thanks to Plastic-Spider (plasticspider.com/) for the cool 3D printed film holder for my RF800mm f11!

Hope everyone else is getting some practice time in. Long range forecast is not looking too good, but I'm praying it changes as we get closer to the date. I don't think I have time to do another video since I'll be mostly taking this week to prepare myself. But if you have any last minute questions about photographing the eclipse, I'll try to answer them here or on Patreon messages through Thursday, April 4th. Starting Friday April 5th, I'll be traveling and won't be responding to messages.

Cheers, Nico

LAST DAY to sign up!
If you will be photographing the April 8th Eclipse, you might be able to participate in this cool, NASA-funded citizen science project - Eclipse Megamovie 2024! eclipsemegamovie.org/ I participated in the 2017 version and will again in 2024. Meant to post about it earlier, but better late than never. Today (3/18) is the last day to sign up to participate: eclipsemegamovie.org/team/volunteers
