The Bacchae is a short coming of age story about a contemplative 11-year-old girl who is forced to grapple with her impending womanhood while at a religious summer camp. In many ways, The Bacchae is a resistance against the stereotypical coming of age film where in a young girl's maturing identity is inevitably tied to her sexuality. While at camp, Carmen and a band of misfit camp friends celebrate girlhood, womanhood, and the hazy, curious and beautiful golden hour in between.
