It actually does a pretty good job for me, despite my fairly eclectic tastes. Each of the 6 daily playlists that spotify makes tends to have songs that belong in the same genre, or at least to genres that are similar to each other. One for jazz, one for funk, one for metal, one for rap, etc.

Yeah. Classical, outlaw country, 70s disco, hard rock & obscure indie metal, hymns, contemporary worship, Hammond lounge compilations, and German Acapella.. very hard to create my daily mixes for sure

The image is actually more accurate than you'd think. Recommendation use multidimensional "vectors" to determine a profile's recommendations, based on listening history. Two profiles with similar vectors will have similar recommendations.

This is why I prefer my playlists. Those radio music apps just don’t get me. They’ll play one song I like and then a bunch of songs I don’t like. I’ll skip…and then it says I’ve used up all my skips! So, I’m just stuck then? If I want to listen to Blackhole Sun followed by The Last Unicorn 7 times in a row, ain’t nothing going to stop me!

For me, it tends to now pick one or two songs that are in my working playlists, then throw in some extra. I think they may have put in some more work to improve the algorithm for people like us.

I listen to indie game music, jazz, new wave 80s, atmospheric, classical, contemporary Christian, EDM, and a few outlier songs from other genres. Spotify doesn't know what to make of me.
