Clean That Up

Which cleaning task should be done first?

I vacuum before doing anything else because it makes the house feel instantly cleaner. Then I do all the cleaning and vacuum again at the end. I struggle with depression so I'm having a hard time being productive, vacuuming first when I'm overwhelmed by all the tasks makes me more motivated to continue cleaning.

Dust, because if any settles on the floor it can be vacuumed afterwards. Vacuuming last makes me feel “the room is done, onto next room”. Speaking as a professional housekeeper in a hotel/country club

If you have a old or not perfect vacuum do that 1st before dusting especially if you dust every day.if you keep windows open& have covered fireplace/wood/pelt stove/good furnace, have clean carpet,a great vacuum& dust 1st especially if you have pets.

Funny how everyone has this backwards. The vacuum isn’t really “in a vacuum”. It blows out hot air in all directions which means the dust is gonna get back on surfaces anyway. So you should really vacuum the floors first, and actually I take an attachment and suck up all the dust on surfaces instead of “dusting” which is counterintuitive. Then use clearners/lysol/etc. to actually wipe things down for actual disinfecting.

Normally, I order my cleaning from ceiling to floor. However, when vacuming, it kicks up dust which lands on furniture and other surfaces. So I vacum first, then dust.

Who else likes to vacuum themselves out of a room so there’s no footprints? I used to work in a hotel and housekeeping and that’s what they had us do. I still do that at home and that was 34 years ago!

Personally. It doesn't matter in my house because it come back eventually. So long as it's done once, I won't go over it again.

I think vacuuming stirs up much more dust, which would just resettle on the newly dusted furniture.

Dust Basically you end up knocking everything down or it will settle down on carpet/rugs or flooring Then vacuum or sweep it up - But to each their own Just clean the damn place lol Especially air out the house or area - open a few windows- 1 hour min

Floors are always last. Top to bottom, just like showering.

I have a Rainbow vacuum, and it's an excellent vacuum. However, you are not taking into consideration people that live in the country. We often open our windows, and we live in the middle of a corn field. Our home is extremely dusty all the time. When I vacuum, it definitely stirs dust, and so, therefore, I dust after I vacuum so that I don't add another layer of fine dust to settle on the surface when I'm complete.

Dust you're enivetably going to get some dust on the floor, if you have a good vaccum it's not an issue If your vaccum kicks up dust when you vaccum then you need to get a better vaccum

as a disabled person I never like to do 2 big chores in one day so I wet dust with my lovely cloths that are waffled and trap the dust. I never dust and vacuum the same day unless I want to be exhausted. I have POTS. I also have a messy child in the house and both chores usually require a lot of prep moving markers, containers of slime, balls, socks, and still somebody sucked up a capri sun straw and clogged the vacuum until I found it. You want to be very thorough to be sure what you are doing is worth the trouble

sometimes i will vacuum twice - once before cleaning anything else in the room & again after wiping and dusting surfaces. it depends on how much debris is on the floor.

Work top down so I don't have to go over any surface twice

When I have a tidy day, I will give my place a quick vacuum (to pick up yesterday stuff off the ground and what not) then after I'm done everything I will give my place another vacuum. But, if it's regular cleaning - dusting first lol.
