Thank You from the Bottom of My Heart
This week’s video is one I only make once a year—it's where I take the time to connect with you in a way I don’t often get the chance to. I cover a lot—there are tears, snot (sorry! 🥹), but also plenty of laughs along the way.
It's long, it's raw, but it’s real.
👉 Watch the video here: youtube.com/watch?v=nr6kR...
It's also why THIS picture was our family's biggest achievement.
AND, if you're curious about why I took an abrupt break from YouTube, my second experience at Homesteaders of America (HOA), updates on hunting (spoiler: I’m still a shotgun girl at heart 💥), and more, this is the video for you.
I know not everyone will have time to sit through the whole video, so in next month's Pantry Chat, I’ll share a much more abbreviated version, but the full(er) story is here!
What’s in the Video?
*Why I Took a Break: Life threw some curveballs, and I had to pause and regroup.
*HOA Recap: My second year was incredible, but so different from the first—here’s what stood out.
*Hunting Adventures: Let’s talk about how my novice hunter journey is shaping up!
*Personal Updates: What we’re trying differently this year with fertility, stepping down from Assistant Principal, how I’m pursuing herbalism and a lot more.
These videos always hold a special place in my heart because they remind me how much we’re all carrying in life—and how important it is to lean on each other.
Your prayers, personal messages, and support during this season have meant the world to me. ❤️ Knowing that this community lifts each other up, even when times are tough, is why I’m so grateful for all of you.
As always, thank you for growing, preserving, and thriving alongside me. Here’s to all the beautiful, messy, and meaningful things that make life so rich. Please know I am reading the comments with the best kind of emotional overwhelm there is and mostly placing a heart to show you I've read them :)
Keep Becoming a Farm Girl,

PROBLEM FIXED! Friends, I totally FORGOT to add the 6 page spring planter guide attachment to the email form! So, try it once more and you'll automatically get the download, easy-peasy. I'm currently working on a summer guide that I'll send to the email address you provide. Thank you so much for telling me there was a download issue. I mistakenly thought it was the link, not that you actually didn't get it. Sorry about that! Click here: marvelous-thinker-7971.ck.page/56762927df

!! IMPORTANT COMMUNITY ALERT !!
It has come to my attention from several subscriber emails, that today (11/28/23), a screenshot from one of my videos showing how to create healthier, homemade versions of store-bought cereals, was featured in a news article with a headline that read, "Boycott Looms for Kellog's Froot Loops for Pushing 'Woke' Agenda on Kids."
It's possible that you have (or will) see my face pop up in a newsfeed app. I want to emphasize how deeply upsetting it is that a "news" agency would deliberately use a screenshot from a video and associate it with an article that deviates so drastically from the purpose and topic with which it was shared. This incident is not just a personal disappointment for me; it also underscores the importance of scrutinizing and vetting news organizations to ensure the integrity of the information we consume. I mean honestly, how does a gal filming from scratch meals in her house slippers become an unsuspecting subject in a sensational news piece? Please know that I will seek guidance on how to best address this matter with the news organization. More importantly, YOU, my friends and community, matter to me and you know my message. Had it not been for folks reaching out, I wouldn't have realized this at all. Below is the image.
My intent this evening was to finish the final touches to a video, I was certain I would publish tonight! I've organized a small home apothecary and I'm so excited to share my set up and favorite fall/winter wellness recipes with you. I'll keep you posted my friends.

Hey there, amazing friends! 🌟 If you've been wondering where I've been, I've been pouring my heart into preparing for my very first speaking engagement at the Homesteaders of America Conference. Meeting so many of you in person this past weekend was an absolute joy – this event holds a special place in my heart, and I can't wait to share the experience with you all. My goal is to have the October pantry chat ready for you this Sunday (or Monday at the latest), and yes, it'll be one of those delightful, long videos where I catch you up on everything! Stay tuned, and thank you for your incredible support. 💚 #HomesteadingAdventures #Becomingafarmgirl

Hi Friends! I’m SO terribly sorry I’m late posting the June pantry chat, but y’all- my basement freezer stopped working last Sunday!
I’m gonna miss her something terrible, especially because I scored her second hand for just $75 bucks six years ago. LUCKILY, I found a new (used) GE freezer, but it knocked my plan to edit and post on Sunday. My work week gets crazy but I’ll post sometime this Saturday.
I’m happy to report that other than what was on the freezer door (my eggs, orange juice, a package of chicken breast and beef stew meat) I didn’t loose any food! I made quiche and canned the meat! If I hadn’t found a freezer as fast as I did, I would’ve already had the “know-how” and the tools to preserve any meat, fruits and veggies. What a blessing! I panicked waaay more about replacing my freezer; I wasn’t worried about my food. Canning is such an essential skill!
This month’s pantry chat was already long (about 40 min) and I’ll add some clips to debut my new freezer find. I’ll see you soon!

Seriously…you may NOT want to watch today’s video because the topics are raw and very personal. There’s no cooking, canning, or fermenting, rather it’s a rambling, laughing through the tears talk you often have with a girlfriend that you finally had a chance to meet up with and catch up on all the things that have gone on since you last truly connected…
.
.
I deeply connected with many of you through one specific video. If you haven’t watched my “Pantry Tour” video, watch that first because it sets the tone and provides context for today’s video. Click here: https://youtu.be/k2XsbxgHmAI
.
.
In this video, I’m imagining I’m only speaking to a core group of y’all; the faces I nervously wait to see that always leave a comment on most videos, or maybe you’re someone that has been with me these past 3 years on YT (even as a silent viewer), or those of you that have watched my more personal videos and just “get” me. I don’t open up like this too often, but the support in the BAFG community has been amazing and I feel comfortable continuing to share.
.
.
The video will post live at noon today. Grab a snack (it’s over an hour long) and some tissues. I’ll meet you there!
.
.
With ❤️,
Cassandra

ALOT of homemade bread has a high maintenance reputation. This one does NOT!
You’re gonna love making this bread because:
-It’s no knead
-A digital scale is NOT required
-Fermented starter not needed
-Won’t leave a floured mess all over your counters
-Keeps for 10 days in the fridge
-Only requires 4 ingredients
…the list goes on
In today’s video I’ll share 2 recipes for regular and gluten free bread loaves that are perfect for busy weekdays and will become your go to!
Please give me about an hour to out final touches on my blog and add the link to the full recipe. I’ll email folks later tonight or early tomorrow once I add all the fancies (pictures, headings, etc).
“See” you soon,
Cassandra

FINALLY homemade mayo recipe that keeps as long as store bought!
(because, even though homemade is a delicious and healthier alternative it’s super annoying that it only keeps for 4-6 days at a time)
.
.
WE’LL, NOT ANYMORE, because in today video I’m sharing how too many of those recipes leave out an amazing, cheap and natural preservation ingredient that’ll give your mayo the 90 DAY (or longer) fridge life we all enjoy about store versions!
.
.
A big shout out to Anna, over at @FermentedHomestead. She’s the organizer of an amazing annual collab #fermentedfebruary23. Please shower her with some love. Ya’ll I completed fumbled my posting date (I was scheduled for the 22nd but mistakenly thought it was the 24th). This video is releasing super early on the 25th to space things out. If you haven’t met Anna yet you must-she’s whipper snapper smart about food, ferments and farming in a very down to earth way filled with laughs and “girl, me too” moments. 😜 Be sure to bookmark the playlist! youtube.com/playlist?list=PLM....
I’ll see you next weekend for our top of the month pantry chat for March!
Keep Becoming a Farm Girl,
