After a few very busy months (and years), I am enjoying my sloth era 🦥 (which is really just hanging out with family & friends, spending time in the sunshine, and devouring novels).

We're currently in San Francisco for one final cookbook signing event, but we will be back soon with new videos!

Big Vegan Flavor is a New York Times bestseller!! This photo was taken shortly after I told my parents 🥰

Making bestseller lists was not a goal of mine (I’m more of a process gal than an outcome gal), but I have to admit that seeing this 600-page behemoth dedicated to celebrating vegan cooking at #3 on the list was pretty freakin cool.

So thank you to this incredible community for making that happen, for your enthusiasm for big vegan flavor, and for being here.

And while it is exciting news, my heart was already full from seeing YOU excited about the book! Cooking from the book! Making recipes from the book for dinner parties and for neighbors in need and to meal prep lunches for work and to feed your families 🥹

Rainbow Plant Life

Exactly 10 years ago, I quit my job as a corporate lawyer because I wanted more out of life. I wasn’t sure what I wanted, but I knew I didn’t want the status quo—waking up anxious each morning, dreading going into work.

Max and I backpacked around the world for six months, during which time I tried to figure out the contours of what I wanted. Eventually, I determined that I wanted three main things: purpose, to give back to others, and work that brought me joy.

It took many more years and even another job in law to carve out the life I wanted, but I can honestly say that, today, I have all three of those things.

And that is thanks to YOU!

By watching my videos, making my recipes, and sharing your joy for vegan cooking, y’all have given me the career of my dreams. I wake up each morning excited to take on the day, and even on my most stressful days, I go to sleep content, knowing that I am living a life with purpose and joy.

And today, the project I’ve worked on the longest and the hardest, is finally here. Big Vegan Flavor—my 600-page cookbook and tribute to vegan cooking—is officially out in the world, and I cannot thank you enough for helping to make this happen.

Rainbow Plant Life

One of the many reasons it has taken so long to publish my upcoming cookbook is that after I submitted the manuscript, I decided to re-photograph 75% of the recipes.

Why? Because I initially had some tight deadlines, so I rushed through the photography process.

Once I saw the photos come together though, I felt disappointed. They didn't convey the excitement I had about vegan cooking and that I wanted my readers to feel.

So instead of moving forward, I took a pause. And I started re-imagining what I wanted the photos to look like and then putting that vision into action. It took an extra three months of work, but in the end, I think it was worth it.

I've shared a couple "before and after" photos below. What do you think? Can you notice the difference?

I started working on my new cookbook, Big Vegan Flavor, in January 2021(!). Here’s how the numbers shake out:

🔸2,000+: the number of recipe tests

🔸75: the % of recipes I re-photographed after not being satisfied with the first round

🔸608: number of pages in this book

🔸150: number of recipes in this book

🔸2: number of times I submitted the “final” manuscript (the first one was 1.5x longer than the final one...it would have been a 900+ page cookbook 😅)

🔸Countless: the number of dishes Max washed and the number of pep talks he has given me in the last 3 ½ years.
