This channel presents Generation X pop culture material from the late 1970s to the early 1990s. Emphasis is put on proper transcoding and restoration of the source material.
I have been remastering SD 30i material for decades, and am always improving my process. Nothing can make 240-line VHS tape look like 4k60 HDR content, but I think you'll agree it looks at least as good, if not better, than VHS tape.
This channel rides the line of what is acceptable fair use, and could disappear at any time.

I've decided to keep the channel up for as long as YouTube's copyright bots will allow it. In celebration of that, I've taken down Overdrawn At The Memory Bank... because I was finally able to source the laserdisc and transfer+retouch that, so you should see that pop up in 24 hours. It looks fantastic.
I spent a few days trying to upscale it to 4K using a machine learning AI GANS network, and while some parts turned out great, other parts came out looking like a lovecraftian nightmare. So no "HD/4K" version of this, sorry, you'll just have to view it at the original laserdisc's detail level.

This channel is being shut down at the end of the year. I started this channel as a place to upload video transcoding and scaling experiments, and thought people would be interested in the results. A secondary reason was to intentionally probe and poke holes in YouTube's content ID system and to see what was possible to get away with. Both missions were successful.
However, because I only upload copyrighted content to this channel, I can never monetize it, and worse, I can get penalized for it. I run another channel that is all original content that I do monetize, and if my activity here could get that legit channel shut down, it would be utterly devastating. So, I plan on removing the channel and the associated email address attached to it at the end of this year. I have used VPNs, throwaway accounts, and cookie-less browsers, but I have it on good authority that Google can still link this channel to my legitimate one, so I am sacrificing this channel so that I don't have to look over my back for the rest of this journey.
Thanks for all of the kind comments over the years; I'm glad I could keep some pop culture alive. Uploads have been suspended since February because I received a copyright strike from WGBH for The Cuckoo's Nest. I find this strike especially ironic, since it was produced from public grants as well as "viewers like you". Since this entire channel exists in gray areas, I can't afford even a 2nd strike, so uploads will resume in June (assuming the strike clears).
This channel is an experiment. YouTube can, and eventually will, pull the plug. Enjoy what you can while you can.
